The main reasons for cracks in titanium steel composite plate equipment are as follows.
(1) Incomplete penetration. There may be incomplete penetration defects in the butt joint of the support ring and the weld between the support ring and the cylinder. During the operation of the equipment, there are alternating up and down fluctuations in the support ring of the tray, which produces alternating additional stress at the root of the circumferential fillet weld, resulting in the generation and expansion of cracks.
(2) The influence of welding environment factors. To ensure the welding quality of titanium materials requires a clean environment. Dust, rust, moisture, etc. are all factors that cause quality problems in titanium welded joints. Dust, rust, etc. will cause cracking of welded joints; water vapor will generate hydrogen at high temperatures during welding, which will melt into the weld, causing pores, microcracks, hydrogen embrittlement, and other hazards in the weld, and causing delayed cracks in titanium.
(3) Inert gas protection is not in place. Usually, the surface color of the welding part can judge the welding quality, especially the protective effect of the shielding gas. When welding, the purity of the shielding gas is not high, and the gas shielding is not good enough to make the surface of the weld appear blue.
(4) The implementation of welding specifications is not in place. During the welding process of the support ring of the tray, the manufacturer believes that the support ring is only a structural part, and underestimates the particularity of titanium welding. Excessive welding current will cause the grains in the heat-affected zone of the weld to become larger, reducing the overall performance of the material.
