Titanium clad steel plate has both the strength and welding performance of steel and the excellent characteristics of titanium such as low-temperature resistance and corrosion resistance. It has a good economy and functionality and is favored by manufacturers in various fields. At present, titanium-steel composite plates have been widely used in machinery, construction, nuclear energy, marine, chemical, and aerospace fields. The production methods of clad plates mainly include three methods: vacuum billet forming + rolling method, explosion cladding billet + rolling method, and explosive cladding method. Since titanium is a non-ferrous metal and steel is a ferrous metal, its own physical properties are quite different, and the surface quality of titanium-steel clad plates produced by the vacuum billet + rolling method has defects. Therefore, there are two main methods for preparing titanium-steel clad plates: explosive cladding and explosive cladding + rolling.

 

Heating is an essential part of the thermal processing process. The purpose of heating is to improve the plasticity of the metal. The higher the heating temperature of the metal, the better the plasticity and the easier processing; at the same time, the internal and external temperatures of the billet can be uniformly reduced to reduce the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the metal. During the heating process of the titanium clad steel sheet, it is easy to form brittle and hard metal compounds on the critical surface of the two materials, resulting in the embrittlement of the joint surface and affecting the composite.

The billet made by explosion forms a wavy joint surface where the cladding layer and the base layer are engaged with each other on the contact surface of the bimetal, which is a firm metallurgical joint. The main function of the rolling process is to control the shape, dimensions, and microstructure of the clad plate. Because the physical properties of the upper and lower surfaces of the titanium-steel clad plate are quite different, in order to ensure the uniformity of the temperature of the upper and lower surfaces of the billet and the shape of the rolled plate, high-pressure water descaling is not performed before rolling.

 

In addition, the titanium-steel clad plate is made of explosive billets, and the billet is composed of upper and lower layers with different materials, resulting in unequal reductions of the upper and lower tables under the same rolling force. Since the titanium plate is on the upper layer, it is easy to buckle during the rolling process, resulting in the phenomenon of rolling scrap and equipment failure. Therefore, in the production process, it is necessary to take a series of measures such as adjusting the speed difference of the rolls, selecting the appropriate work roll elevation, and maintaining the uniformity of the upper and lower surface temperatures of the billet to ensure the good shape of the titanium-steel clad plate and stable production.

 

Cooling and straightening Since the final rolling temperature of the titanium-steel clad plate is low, in order to increase the opening and straightening temperature, the laminar cooling is turned off, and the laminar flow device is quickly passed through. Straightening adopts the straightening method of small reduction and multiple passes to ensure the good shape of the composite board.
