1. Acceptance of materials

Titanium and titanium composite plates and their matching welding materials must have a quality assurance certificate from the factory. If the quality assurance certificate is incomplete or deemed necessary, the materials shall be re-inspected according to the relevant standards. If the composite rate of titanium-clad steel plate is ultrasonically checked, lubricating oil cannot be used as coupling agent, but water or water glass should be used.

 

2. Scribing and blanking

When cutting the titanium plate, a processing allowance should be left, and attention should be paid to reasonable layout to improve the utilization rate of materials. The scribing of titanium-steel composite steel plate should be carried out on the base layer as much as possible, and it is forbidden to punch holes on the titanium plate. Use a metal pencil to draw lines on the titanium plate as much as possible. The parts that can be eliminated in the later processing are allowed to be punched.

 

Titanium and titanium-steel-clad steel plates can be blanked by flame cutting, plasma cutting, punching shearing, or mechanical processing.

 

3. Forming of head and barrel section

Titanium and titanium-steel-clad steel plate heads can be formed by hot stamping or hot stamping after cold stamping (cold stamping is allowed). The titanium clad steel plate head should be formed by cold stamping as much as possible. If hot forming is used, the heating temperature should be controlled at 550-650 °C.

 

The barrel section can be formed by hot roll forming or cold roll forming.

4. Welding

When butt welding titanium-steel composite steel plate container tube joints, the titanium-clad layer in the weld area must be removed first, and the base steel is welded. After passing the quality inspection, affix or inlay titanium strips on the removed titanium clad layer, and weld this titanium strip to the titanium cladding.

 

Due to the activity of titanium and its sensitivity to heating, titanium welding is a key process for the manufacture of titanium composite plate containers. Before welding, an inert gas protective drag hood should be prepared in advance according to the form of the weld, so that the weld with a temperature above 400 °C and the heat-affected zone of the base metal is under the protection of inert gas. The base metal and welding wire should be cleaned, if necessary, scrub with ethanol or propanol before welding, and degrease thoroughly. The protective gas should be argon with a purity of more than 99.99%. Welders must wear clean work clothes, work shoes, and white gloves to enter the titanium-clad welding area for construction. Titanium welding generally does not require preheating, but the temperature of the weld bead and the base metal should always be kept between 5-150 °C. The welding of titanium cladding should adopt a welding process with low heat input, but not melting to the steel surface, and can obtain the maximum penetration depth. When welding titanium, try to use the arc starting plate and the arc extinguishing plate, and it is not allowed to strike the arc on the surface of the workpiece outside the groove.

 

5. Pickling and packing

During the manufacturing process of titanium containers, they are polluted by iron, oxygen, hydrogen, and other impurities to varying degrees, which endangers the use of titanium equipment, so the pollution layer must be removed.
