The thermal conductivity and linear expansion coefficient of copper and steel are quite different, and the crystallization temperature range of the copper-iron binary alloy is very large. 2. The cladding is easily oxidized to form a low-melting eutectic distributed at the grain boundary, which reduces the plasticity of the weld and causes cracks.
3. The dilution of the welding seam of the transition layer by the base layer not only reduces the conductivity of the cladding layer but also easily causes defects such as pores and cracks in the welding seam.
4. The surface activity of copper to iron is high, and the liquid copper or copper alloy may penetrate into the steel surface in the near seam area that it contacts so that infiltration cracks are formed in the near seam area of the steel.
In fact, the weld metal containing Ni, Al, and Si copper alloys has less penetration to steel, while the Sn-containing bronze penetrates more seriously. In addition, the microstructure of the steel also has an important influence on the penetration cracks. Liquid copper can infiltrate austenite but not ferrite, so penetration cracks are easy to occur when the base layer is single-phase austenitic steel, while the base layer is austenite- Ferritic dual-phase steels are less prone to penetration cracks.
